Kaiser Home Winery started bottling wine  late in 2003.  The winery building houses the actual vinting and bottling facilities.  October 14, 2006 was the opening of a tasting room as well as a gift shop.  March 2008, a tornado took the roof off of the red barn and we moved our process to the building north of the house.

Fermentation, also called the “birth of wine” takes several weeks.  Then the wine must be clarified, stabilized, matured and blended, which can take weeks and up to years to complete.

At Kaiser Home, our wines are bottled young and are best consumed within several months.

All Kaiser Home Winery wines are fermented, bottled and labeled on the premises.  Samples are available upon request.

Iowa Grape Growing and winemaking was at its height when in 1920 Prohibition laws took their toll.

Text Box: Kaiser Home was established in 1946 by Herman and Ollive Kaiser.  As a child Joyce Kaiser Thomas spent every summer here on the farm with her paternal grandparents.  At age 14 she moved to the Kaiser Home and this has been her home since.
Joyce started making wine with a recipe handed down to her from her Uncle George.   When the need for an alternative to milking cows and raising corn came along…Kaiser Home Winery was established.   After  years of experimenting she  is still making her top selling wine with George’s same old recipe.  “By George” is one of Kaiser Home’s most popular wines offering a sweet concord taste much like fresh picked grapes.

Text Box: August of 2006 we closed the Red Barn Bistro to expand our winery.  Over the past six and a half years we’ve met some of the most wonderful people through the restaurant.  We would like to thank everyone for making the Bistro one of the “Top 100 places to eat in Iowa before you die”...
